Local Artist Robert Barros has been creating the Day of the Dead theme artwork for the Event in Old town since 2010 when he was first asked to create something for a new event. Barros was not aware of the cultural significance or the meaning behind the symbolism of the Day of the Dead. After much research his images have taken many directions. “What I love about painting Catrina is the freedom to express what I am feeling and convey so that others can experience their feelings when they view my work.” Barros will be displaying two new images of Catrina this year at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in an open air gallery. Catrina became the face of the Day of the Dead in 1947 when Diego Rivera elaborated on Posada’s original creation. Since then she has been depicted by many artists in different ways. The images below are the various ways that Catrina has been depicted by Barros for this event. Visit site rbarros.com
